About This Stop

Our European journey brought us to one of the continent's smallest countries—Luxembourg—where we discovered a pristine capital city rich in history, stunning views, and unexpected family fun. This charming duchy offered a perfect blend of cultural experiences and relaxation before our upcoming adventures in Paris.

Our journey and first impressions featured a memorable train ride from Brussels with 'a million scouts' and an impromptu Hank Williams Jr. concert to counter others' loud music, smooth arrival and Airbnb check-in, immediately noticing Luxembourg as 'very nice and clean' – a refreshing change of pace, and this compact, walkable city perfect for family exploration.

Historic sites and cultural experiences included visiting the beautiful cathedral with its impressive architecture and rich history, watching the traditional guard marching ceremony at the Grand Ducal Palace, exploring the fascinating Casemates du Bock – defensive caves and fortifications built into the city walls, discovering a vibrant farmers market next to the cathedral offering local produce and goods, and stumbling upon a live concert in the park – an unexpected cultural bonus.

Natural beauty and viewpoints featured the park overlook providing stunning panoramic views of the city and surrounding landscape, Luxembourg's unique topography with its dramatic elevation changes and valley views, beautiful green spaces throughout the compact capital, and clean, well-maintained public areas enhancing the overall experience.

Family fun included discovering the amazing pirate ship playground that became an instant family favorite, multiple return visits to the pirate ship park (a true sign of its appeal!), morning runs in Luxembourg's beautiful parks, perfect balance of sightseeing and play for the children, and relaxing downtime in our comfortable apartment.

The pace and atmosphere offered a more relaxed rhythm during our Luxembourg stay, an 'easy and relaxing day' appreciating the small country's charms, opportunity to recharge before heading to bustling Paris, and a blend of structured sightseeing and unplanned discoveries. Luxembourg charmed us with its pristine streets, impressive fortifications, and surprising family attractions. Though one of Europe's smallest capitals, it packed in a remarkable variety of experiences—from ancient casemates carved into cliffs to modern playgrounds that delighted the children. The country's compact size allowed us to enjoy both cultural highlights and simple pleasures like park concerts and farmers markets without feeling rushed. As we prepared for the final leg of our European adventure in Paris, Luxembourg provided the perfect interlude—a clean, walkable, historic gem where unexpected treasures like a pirate ship playground created some of our most memorable family moments!
