At Sea - Atlantic Crossing
About This Stop
The middle stretch of our cruise brought six full days at sea—an ocean journey that connected the Caribbean to Europe. With nothing but water in every direction, we settled into ship life, filling our days with activities, routines, and a few unexpected events. Smooth sailing and endless blue skies gave us time to rest, recharge, and enjoy everything the ship had to offer.
Our mornings often started with a walk or run on the track, soaking in the refreshing sea breeze as we watched the endless expanse of Atlantic waters stretch to the horizon. The rhythm of ship life quickly became second nature, with craft time at noon becoming a fun tradition that brought together both kids and adults in creative activities. These sessions were followed by leisurely sit-down lunches in the formal dining room, where we could enjoy multi-course meals while gazing out at the ocean.
Afternoons typically meant swimming on the upper deck, lounging in comfortable deck chairs, or finding a quiet spot to catch the ocean breeze with a good book. The slower pace was a welcome change from our usual busy schedule, allowing us to truly unwind and embrace the unique experience of being completely surrounded by water.
Evenings brought their own special charm with fancy dinners each night featuring elaborate multi-course meals and dressed-up occasions that made each day feel like a celebration. We watched fascinating fruit carving and cake decorating demonstrations that showcased incredible culinary artistry, and participated in face painting, games, and occasional family competitions that kept everyone entertained. These creative activities and social events helped pass the time while creating lasting memories of our transatlantic journey.
On the second day of our crossing, we experienced an unexpected and sobering detour when the ship turned around due to a critically ill passenger. After five hours of sailing back toward the Caribbean, the course resumed when it was confirmed that the passenger had sadly passed away. This moment served as a poignant reminder of life's fragility during what was otherwise a peaceful and leisurely journey across the Atlantic.
Perhaps the most remarkable aspect of these six days was the endless ocean views—six straight days with no land in sight, just rolling waves during the day and star-filled skies at night. The experience was both surreal and deeply calming, offering a unique perspective that was unlike any other part of our trip. The vastness of the Atlantic and the complete disconnection from land created a meditative quality that allowed us to fully appreciate the magnitude of our journey and the incredible engineering feat of our floating home.
