Hannover, Germany
About This Stop
Our European journey brought us back to Germany with a visit to Hannover, offering a more relaxed pace after weeks of intensive travel. Despite some initial logistical challenges and rainy weather, this Lower Saxony capital provided a welcome opportunity to slow down and enjoy simpler pleasures while still appreciating the city's historic architecture and green spaces.
Our journey and arrival featured an early departure from Poland with initial train challenges, navigating the massive and hectic Berlin Hauptbahnhof during our connection, smooth final leg to Hannover with proper seating and reservations, brief wait for our Airbnb to be cleaned, which we used for grocery shopping at Edeka, and an overall 'very easy and chill day' despite the minor hiccups.
City impressions included finding Hannover to be 'quite nice' upon arrival, evening walk to admire the old buildings in the historic center, appreciating the city's blend of historic architecture and modern amenities, and convenient location of our accommodation near shopping and attractions.
Park exploration featured morning run with the girls in Hannover's 'absolutely huge' park, discovering a fun zip line that added excitement to our exercise, appreciating the extensive green space in the heart of the city, and perfect environment for family activities despite unpredictable weather.
Weather adaptation included making the best of a rainy day with a mix of indoor and outdoor activities, cozy time relaxing in our apartment when the rain became heavy, brief outdoor adventures between rain showers, and flexibility in our plans to accommodate the weather conditions.
Family activities featured grocery shopping together at the local Edeka, Aubrey and Tyler's cathedral-hunting expedition (though it was closed), Tyler's excitement at spotting 'some cool cars' during their walk, and balancing active exploration with restful downtime. Our time in Hannover offered a gentler pace that provided a welcome contrast to our busier stops. Though the rainy weather limited some activities, it created an opportunity to rest and recharge after weeks of intensive sightseeing. The city's impressive parks, historic architecture, and convenient amenities made it an enjoyable German interlude as our European adventure continued. Even with fewer tourist attractions visited, Hannover gave us valuable family time and a chance to experience a different side of German urban life—one focused more on everyday pleasures and relaxation than monument-hopping!
