Berlin, Germany
About This Stop
Our European adventure continued with Berlin, a vibrant destination that blends historical significance with modern energy. As seasoned travelers by this point, we navigated Germany's capital with confidence, finding a perfect balance of landmark exploration, outdoor activities, museum visits, and—of course—memorable culinary experiences that kept us returning for more.
Our journey and accommodation featured a smooth travel day from Dresden to Berlin (we were 'getting good at this!'), settling into our unique converted hotel Airbnb with 'a ton of rooms,' successfully navigating the city despite Sunday closures, and convenient location allowing for easy exploration of the city.
Historic landmark exploration included the boys and Aubrey visiting the iconic Brandenburg Gate, symbol of German unity, split exploration strategy continuing to work well for our family, various other historic sites and landmarks around the city, and experiencing both the city's complex history and its vibrant present.
Outdoor activities featured multiple visits to Berlin's excellent parks, the girls enjoying a great workout in the park, family time with ice cream in the green spaces, the boys getting their second run of the day, and perfect balance of sightseeing and outdoor recreation.
Museum experience included a fascinating visit to a transportation museum featuring trains, planes, and boats, engaging exhibits that kept everyone interested for hours, educational opportunity to learn about technological history and innovation, and family-friendly cultural experience amid our outdoor activities.
Culinary highlights featured discovering Amici's restaurant and returning multiple times for consistent excellence, sampling delicious specialties including arancini, calzone, pizza, and seafood risotto, worth-the-wait experience trying Berlin's famous Döner kebab, and hour-long line that 'was well worth it' for unforgettable flavors. Berlin showcased yet another fascinating facet of Germany's diverse character. As a city that has witnessed dramatic historical events and transformations, Berlin provided our family with both educational opportunities and simple pleasures. From iconic landmarks to sprawling parks, from transportation museums to culinary discoveries, our time in Germany's capital allowed each family member to connect with different aspects of this multifaceted city. The comfortable rhythm we had developed through weeks of European travel served us well as we enjoyed all that Berlin had to offer!
