About This Stop

Martinique offered something for everyone—lush mountains for hiking adventurers and vibrant gardens for the plant lovers. The family split up again for two incredible excursions on this French-Caribbean island, exploring the wild beauty and cultural richness that makes Martinique so unique.

Kennedy, Andrew, Tyler, Bryan, and Grandpa embarked on the Protectours Hiking & Peace of Mind Tour, venturing up into the hills outside Fort-de-France for an authentic rainforest adventure. They rode a minibus through scenic jungle roads that wound through increasingly dense tropical vegetation until they reached the start of the Rue de la Fontaine Didier trail. The hike itself was a journey through lush rainforest, where they walked past towering tropical trees and encountered the diverse wildlife that calls this Caribbean paradise home.

Along the trail, they discovered beautiful waterfalls cascading through the jungle, creating natural pools and filling the air with the soothing sounds of rushing water. The symphony of nature—from bird calls to the rustle of leaves in the tropical breeze—provided a soundtrack that made the physical exertion of the hike feel like a moving meditation. The group finished their adventure at Absalon, where they rested by a small river and enjoyed a refreshing local drink, savoring both the accomplishment and the stunning natural surroundings.

After their mountain adventure, they took a relaxing minibus ride back to the port, their legs tired but their spirits soaring from the incredible experience of hiking through one of the Caribbean's most pristine rainforest environments.

Meanwhile, Aubrey and Madison chose a more culturally-focused exploration, beginning their morning with a brief guided tour and free time in downtown Fort-de-France. They immersed themselves in the local markets and shops, absorbing the unique French-Caribbean atmosphere that makes Martinique distinct from other Caribbean islands. The blend of French sophistication with tropical Caribbean energy created a fascinating cultural experience.

Their journey continued with a visit to a replica of the Sacred Heart Basilica of Montmartre, beautifully nestled in the hills and offering both spiritual beauty and stunning views of the surrounding landscape. From there, they proceeded to the renowned Botanical Garden, a living showcase of exotic plants and vibrant tropical flowers that demonstrated the incredible biodiversity of the French Caribbean.

The highlight of their botanical exploration was crossing the suspension bridge inside the gardens, which offered jaw-dropping panoramic views and created perfect photo opportunities. This peaceful, scenic morning filled with natural color and beauty provided an ideal complement to the hiking group's adventure, proving that Martinique's appeal extends from its wild mountain interiors to its carefully cultivated cultural and botanical treasures.
